The Deserializer chip provided by Texas Intruments is capable of connecting up to 4 Serializers. Some other versions of the deserializer chips are only capable of 2 Serializer connections. Auvidea uses them in a variety of hardware configurations to fit in a wide range of different use cases.
The configuration communication is accomplished over I²C, and the camera data transfer is accomplished over CSI. Both protocols are roouted over the FPD-Link as shown in the diagrams below.
Depending on the platform CSI-2 interfaces can support up to 4 virtual channels. The following table provides a more insight on the platform capabilities.
virtual channels are used when more than one CSI-2 video stream is transferred over one CSI-2 connection. See #video-routing.
The deserializer is limited to 1.6 Gbps on each MIPI CSI-2 data lane. This bandwidth has to be shared with multiple camera streams, if virtual channeling is used on the V3/FPD-Link III Port.
Deserializer chips, with more than one CSI interface, are providing the free choice to route the data for each camera stream to one exposed CSI-Channels of the Jetson module.
In comparison, the Deserializer Chip with only one interface is limited to the following configuration.
This system is a good starting point for FPD-Link III camera developement.
